Das Schmieden von Bronze ist eine besondere Herausforderung
Die sich dann ergebenden Materialdarstellungen sind gewollte, logische Formgebungsprozesse im glühenden Zustand mit Hilfe der urwüchsigen Dynamik eines Hammers. Der Künstler erreicht mit seiner Bearbeitung Antworten aus der Formensprache des Materials.
Im Gegensatz und der ist nicht unumstritten (Agnes Martin) zu den schweren Stahlblechkonstruktionen bzw. den geschlichteten Kubuse „Neun „ von Richard Serra bei denen hauptsächlich die Masse bzw. das Gewicht im Vordergrund steht, weil eben für Richard Serra „Gewicht und Größe ein Wert ist“. Johann Schrallhammer gibt dem Eisen und der Bronze durch seine Art des Schmiedens eine Form, welche mit dem Material schon immer und seit Jahrtausenden in Verbindung steht. Schrallhammer will mit dieser archaischen Bearbeitung aber das Ergebnis „contemporary“ machen.
Schrallhammer versucht ein Assoziationspotential der geschmiedeten Umformung zu erreichen mit dem Ergebnis einer organischen teils traditionellen, materialgerechten Struktur, die als Zwischenwelt ihre eigene Wahrhaftigkeit und Identität besitzt.
Keine Abstraktion mit schmerzlicher Materialvergewaltigung, keine aufgeladene Intellektualität, sondern handwerkliche Arbeit wird hier nicht nur Materialkunst und knüpft an die Arbeiten von Julio Gonzales und Chillida an. Ihm gelingt es aus einer statischen massiven Schwere, Leichtigkeit zu schaffen

The resulting material representations are deliberate, logical shaping processes in the glowing state with the help of the original dynamic of a hammer.
With his treatment, the artist achieves answers from the formal language of the material. Schrallhammer tries to achieve an association potential of the forged forming with the result of an organic, partly traditional, material-appropriate structure that has its own truthfulness and identity as an intermediate world. No abstraction with painful rape of material, no charged intellectuality, but instead manual work
becomes not only material art and ties in with the works of Julio Gonzales and Chillida. He manages to create lightness out of a static, massive weight.
